Clinical implications A goal of this study has been to enhance the extant literature suggesting that while daughters presently continue to emerge as the principle primary care provider of ADL care, there is a significant trend as evidenced in these data for older patients to depend upon sons for a variety of IADLS, particularly when there are no daughters or close female relatives available.
