The percentage of children harbouring tEPEC (33%) and aEPEC (27%) strains with SVG was similar and there was a clear trend for the presence of SVG with increasing age ( Table 5 ). tEPEC strains harbouring SVG were significantly more common in children older than 24 months compared with those younger than 24 months (66% vs. 29%) ( P = 0.023, OR = 8.8, 95% CI, 1.4–56.2).
