Strikingly, across the four repetitions, memory-specific competitor activation showed a significant (negative) linear trend in ventral visual cortex (F 1,23 =10.52, p=0.004) but not in hippocampus (F 1,23 =1.07, p=0.312; note that the hippocampus showed a trend towards suppression when including correct trials only, see Supplementary Fig.2 ).
