When looking closer at the single gene level, several genes encoding cyclin dependent kinase inhibitors showed a trend for overexpression in the high LC50/GI50 group and of these CDKN1A was more highly expressed in the high LC50/GI50 group than in the low LC50/GI50 group, suggesting that high basal expression of CDKN1A might protect cells from HDACi-mediated cytotoxicity.
