Additionally, the number of podocytes per glomeruli (evaluated by WT-1 staining) was reduced in DM mice; however this difference did not reach statistical significance (data not shown); however, more important than the podocyte number per se is the podocyte number in relation to the territory that each podocyte has to cover.
