There was a U-shaped relationship between age and maternal morbidity with age <20 years (aOR 1.14; 95% CI 0.81 to 1.60) and ≥35 years (aOR 1.22; 95% CI 1.04 to 1.44) being associated with increased odds of being a case (although the association with age <20 years did not reach statistical significance), compared with the baseline group of 25–29 years ( table 2 ).
