Fat oxidation during the daytime (8:00–20:00), when subjects in evening exercise trials had consumed 563 ± 45 more calories at breakfast, lunch and dinner than in control trials in which participants had yet to perform exercise, was lower in evening exercise trials (170 ± 19 kcal/12 h) compared control trials (213 ± 32 kcal/12 h; P = 0.11), although this difference did not reach statistical significance.
