Exposure to smoking at home was indeed more prevalent in patients with SA, although the difference did not reach statistical significance possibly because of the low sample size.

We did not include in the multivariable analysis variables which were highly correlated such as age at anti-asthma maintenance treatment start, hospital admissions for asthma during the past year, oral steroids for asthma exacerbations, and parents with workdays lost; we included instead parental smoking, which was of borderline significance at the univariate analysis.
