While the relative frequencies of PIK3CA mutations in the apocrine triple negative breast cancer group and the triple negative breast cancers of the Cancer Genome Atlas cohort did not reach statistical significance, a trend was observed toward higher frequency of PIK3CA mutations in the apocrine triple negative breast cancer group (2 cases (50%) in apocrine triple negative breast cancer; 7 cases (9%) triple negative breast cancers of the Cancer Genome Atlas cohort, p = 0.058, Fisher’s exact test).
