Analysis of the correlation between ERG and TMPRSS2:ERG expression ( Fig 3b ) revealed that there was a strong trend between the two genes (R 2 = 0.826) consistent with urinary cell and tissue data suggesting that the most common fusion (TMPRSS2 (exon 1) with ERG (exon 4)) may give rise to increased ERG expression [ 12 , 18 ].
