Although the support for the mismatch-interference effect was not equally clear—it was only marginally significant in two of the eye tracking measures, and there was some evidence in the exploratory data analysis with cumulative progressions—the two interference effects have important theoretical implications for the generality of the retrieval mechanisms in sentence processing, and so should not be ignored.
