the lowest three quartiles combined was not significant ( P =0·08) and any TF consumption in the past day was marginally significant ( P =0·054), but both were suggestive of a tendency for a lower odds of glucose intolerance ( Table 3 , model 1).
However, TF such as marine mammals and game are rich in haem Fe and therefore not a likely candidate for explaining the associations observed in our study population, as we identified an almost significant beneficial association between past-day TF consumption and glucose intolerance.
This may explain why the fibre intake in our population, which was very low for the majority of participants, did not reach statistical significance in its association with glucose intolerance.
