Interestingly and not surprisingly, only cachectic cancer patients had significantly lower serum albumin and total lymphocytes count when compared to controls ( Table 3 ), while C-reactive protein levels, were increased in both non-cachectic and cachectic cancer patients, although this difference did not reach statistical significance ( Table 3 ).
