albicans remains the most common fungal isolate from blood, longitudinal studies showed a trend toward an increased prevalence of other Candida spp. with a larger proportion of C. glabrata in the United States and C. parapsilosis in some European (i.e.: Italy or Spain) and Latin American countries [ 3 – 9 ].
