The four‐way anova run on the data from all 12 areas revealed a main effect of ModSpecificity ( F 2,11 = 2345, P < 0.001), with generally more CA cells and therefore higher assembly‐cell density in the multimodal than in the secondary mesomodal ( t 12 = 48.9, P < 0.001), and in the secondary than in the primary unimodal ( t 12 = 14.6, P < 0.001) areas; in addition, a highly significant interaction of the factors ExtraPeri, ModSpecificity, FrontoTemp and WordType ( F 2,11 = 137.6, P < 0.001) emerged, confirming that CA topographies (i.e. the distributions of their neurons over the areas) differed between word types.
