In a recent meta-analysis, no significant associations were found between HLA-DQB1 polymorphisms and the risk of GBS in Asian and Caucasian populations; however, 2 associations approached significance: HLA-DQB1∗030× in Asian patients and HLA-DQB1∗060× in all patients. 35 It is likely that the HLA data generated from the patients of our study will help to clarify the hypothesis of an interaction between the Polynesian HLA system and flaviviruses.
