Although the differences in the levels of active plasmin in the airspaces did not reach statistical significance on comparison of Y. pestis ∆pla infection of wild‐type mice and PAI‐1 −/− mice infected with 10 4 CFUs, the effects of PAI‐1 and Pla on active plasmin generation were clear on comparison of Y. pestis ∆pla dose‐matched samples in wild‐type and PAI‐1 −/− mice (Fig. 7 B).
