Clinical trials of the product indicated that BG‐coated CVCs not only reduced the risk of infection but also resulted in less thrombosis (0.8%) as compared to uncoated CVC (2.7%); however, the difference did not reach statistical significance due to low numbers. 11 , 12 BG has recently developed a new BG‐coated CVC, the Bactiguard Infection Protection (BIP) CVC, intended to have increased anti‐microbial properties without compromising blood compatibility.
