In subgroup analysis based on the TNM classification according to the International Union Against Cancer/American Joint Committee on Cancer TNM Classification for Gastric Carcinoma (seventh edition), 10 although there were no statistically significant differences in 5-year overall survival of TNM stage I and II between the 2 groups [91.7% and 48.7% in the transthoracic group, and 90.2% and 43.1% in the transabdominal group, respectively, P > 0.05, Figure 1 B and C, hazard ratio (HR) was 0.87 (0.11 to 13.40) and 1.11 (1.61 to 2.06), respectively, P > 0.05], there was a clear trend toward improved survival of TNM stage III patients with the transabdominal approach [25.7% versus 37.2%, P < 0.05, Figure 1 D, and HR was 0.66 (0 43 to 0.99, P < 0.05)].
