The 12 week timepoint was selected as the primary exploratory endpoint based on similar early phase clinical development studies in diabetic nephropathy ( Pergola et al., 2011 , Ruilope et al., 2014 ) and a previous study in subjects with type 2 diabetes that showed a trend for improved glycemic control at 8 weeks which dissipated thereafter ( Skyler et al., 2015 ).
