Indeed, the BMI max showed a stronger association with T2D than the current BMI in this study as previously reported [ 36 – 38 ], and, only in men, the association of the FTO variants with T2D was nominally significant when we used 'current BMI' and age as co-variables, whereas the association was no longer significant when we used BMI max and age as co-variables ( Table 5 ).
