Interestingly, the trend toward increased richness in the luminal contents of the large intestines was reversed; greater numbers of OTUs were detected in the gastric and small intestinal luminal samples relative to the cecal and colonic samples, although these differences did not reach statistical significance ( Fig 1C ).
