Protein thiyl radical reactions and product formation: a kinetic simulation.

While it is commonly assumed that antioxidants such as glutathione (GSH) and ascorbate (HAsc − ) prevent deleterious intra - and inter molecular reactions of protein thiyl radicals, our kinetic simulations will show that, due in part to chain reactions, quite significant yields of reaction products other than thiols or disulfides may form from these protein thiyl radicals.
