The difference in hemodynamic responses between change-in and attend-out conditions did not reach statistical significance at any pixel (two-tailed t test, P < 0.05 and the lowest P in each region, n = 215 trials for M1 and 124 trials for M2), suggesting that exogenous attention was not responsible for the enhancement of hemodynamic responses.
