The majority of studies comparing HCC and cirrhosis metabolomes did not uncover a significant differential expression of bile acids, but where a significant trend was seen[ 36 - 38 ], the metabolites collectively trended downward, in contrast to the aforementioned previous reports[ 55 , 56 ].
