Though the differences in group averages did not reach statistical significance because variation in the WNV group was so large (Figs. 9 i and 10 i), six of nine WNV-infected animals had brainstem values at least 2 SD above the mean sham value (all six were also over 3 SD above the mean sham value), and another six of nine WNV+ animals had CSC values at least 2 SD above the mean (all six were over 5 SD above the mean sham value) (Fig. 5 ).
