In the 90s, a double-blind, placebo-controlled trial of the efficacy of oral DSCG was conducted in 11 patients with SM; this study showed that DSCG was significantly helpful relative to placebo in alleviating the gastrointestinal manifestations, whereas the benefit for non-gastrointestinal symptoms did not reach statistical significance [ 39 ].
