Perceived exertion ratings were slightly higher in women than men, and although this gender difference did not reach statistical significance, it was nonetheless reflected in heart rate values (Fig. 1 , panel C), which were significantly higher in women compared to men particularly in the upper range of power (ANOVA power x gender interaction: P < 0.001).
