PD patients scored worse (mean = 6.6 ± 1.7) than control subjects (mean = 7.5 ± 2.5) when target sentences and competing sentences were all presented at 0°, although this difference did not quite reach statistical significance ( p < 0.08).

The sentences
Although group differences did not reach statistical significance (possibly due to intersubject variability), these results indicate that both groups have impaired ability to understand speech in noisy environments, a common complaint of older people who have significant hearing loss.
