The sentences

Although the regional differences between the estimates for most of the sub-groups in the northern and southern region of Nigeria did not reach statistical significance (probably because of the small sample size in most of the studies), the observed differences may be because most early studies on DR-TB were conducted in southern Nigeria where the only TB national reference laboratory available then was located.
