However, a few regional studies, mainly in the tropics and subtropics, reported an increasing trend 21 , 22 in DTR and attributed it solely to the increase in T max , which may be ascribed to the influence of regional climate on the behaviour of DTR.
However, the rate of increase of T min , which is a factor of local micro-climate, also plays a dominating role leading to a negative trend in DTR over these regions.
On the contrary, few studies 26 , 27 observed a decreasing trend in both T min and T max over western Himalayas.
