Currently its role in HCC treatment regards adjuvant therapy after surgery, based on a randomized, controlled trial, placebo-controlled[ 60 ], that showed lower recurrence rate (53.3% vs 76.7%) and higher time-to-tumor progression (40 mo vs 20 mo, P = 0.0046); 5-years-overall survival was better in capecitabine group, even if this result did not reach statistical significance (62.5% vs 39.8%, P = 0.216).
