Further, immunohistological analysis of the number of tissue resident macrophages in pancreatic islets prior to insulitis (in islets with insulitis grade 0) indicated a decreased number of F4/80+ macrophages with increasing PFUnDA exposure at both 7 and 11 weeks of age, although it did not reach statistical significance ( Fig. 2 a).
