Highly significant reduction of cancer risk among metformin users, consistent among men and women observed in our study is in line with the results of meta-analyses published in recent years, which also demonstrated protective effect of metformin on cancer incidence and mortality [ 17 – 20 ] irrespective of gender [ 20 ].
In the univariate analysis aspirin use demonstrated borderline significant protective effect on the risk of malignancy in male subjects (Tables 1 and 2 ).
