Those who reported pain on using stairs had a significantly increased risk of tibiofemoral OA [OR 6.23 (95% CI 2.75–14.27), p value < 0.001], and also patellofemoral OA [OR 2.35 (95% CI 0.87–6.30), p value = 0.091], although this latter association did not reach statistical significance, suggesting that both forms of OA may be associated with pain on stair climbing.
