Overall, genetic load appears to be higher in marine versus terrestrial animals, but a general lack of data for many marine taxa (e.g., echinoderms), substantial variation within taxa, and a possible reporting bias of segregation distortion in studies of marine fish ( Figure 3 ), complicates the emergence a clear trend from the available literature.
