16 , 17 In young adult Belgian MZ twins, only when the birthweight difference between the twins exceeded 15%, the heavier twin at birth showed a trend towards a higher BMI. 18 , 19 A positive association was observed in Swedish young adult MZ males 20 and in Finnish MZ and DZ twins of both sexes (aged 16–18.5 years). 21 This suggests that intrauterine environment may play a role in later BMI, but this is far from settled.
