A study of food consumption between 1970 and 2009 showed a trend of increasing consumption of ultra-processed foods (baked goods, sausages, soft drinks, ready meals), and the researchers in that study also noted a reduction in the consumption of basic foods such as eggs, animal fats, fish, roots, tubers and rice, aside from the consumption of fruits and vegetables, which remained stable, albeit representing less than half of the recommended daily intake [ 3 ].
