Hence, it is possible that highly significant accelerating effect of CK treatment on the expression of CDKs and CYCs in apical and basal spikelets, particularly on 12 DAA in the basal spikelets (Fig. 4b ), might be causing an enhanced division of endosperm cell in them during the period leading to significant increase in grain filling (Table 1 ).
