Over the past 30 years, there has been a clear trend for women (and men) in developed countries to have their children later in life. 66 This is reflected in the rising average age of mothers, which is now close to or equal to 30 across Europe, 67 while in Canada, over 52% of all births in 2011 were to women aged over 30 (up from 47.4% in 2002 and 37.9% in 1992). 68 The data show that women are also having children in their 40s much more.
