In addition to the warming, there has been thinning of ice shelves in the Amundsen Sea Embayment (ASE) and an associated acceleration and thinning of West Antarctic outlet glaciers which has resulted in a negative trend in ice-sheet mass balance and a faster rate of global sea level rise 12 – 18 .
