When compared to 10 healthy donors, with an equal number of men and women, male CLL patients had lower steroid levels with significant differences noted for DHEA-S, DHEA, and ADT; female CLL cases showed a trend towards lower DHEA-S and DHEA levels (Fig. 3 a, left panel).
