We found that although the increased production of caspase 3 by blood monocytes did not reach statistical significance (Fig. 2a ), by week 3, the number of caspase 3+ CD14+ macrophages in the BALF of MDR-Mtb-infected macaques was significantly greater than the number in the BALF from Erdman strain-infected animals (Fig. 2b ).
