While IL-6, MCP-1, and KC were significantly upregulated in the serum and TNF-α showed a trend toward upregulation, only the genes for MCP-1 and TNF-α were significantly upregulated in the blood, probably reflecting differences in kinetics for these cytokines and chemokines and/or mobilization of some cytokines from the lung into the blood.
