Finally, in a population of basal-like (PAM50 molecular classifier) breast cancer patients (60 to 90% TNBC molecular subtype) 13 , 14 , we discovered that elevated EPHA2 mRNA expression (above the median value) within patients’ tumors was significantly associated with shorter disease-free survival (DFS) (P = 0.01; Figure 2E ; hazard ratio = 1.45 [1.08 – 1.94]), and shorter overall survival (OS) which, while approaching significance, is in line with our DFS findings (P = 0.06; Supplementary Figure S2 ; hazard ratio = 1.563 (0.9712 −2.515).
