When further investigation into serologic markers of autoimmune disease was performed, it was determined that patients with CSU as compared to control subjects had significantly higher levels of anti-thyroid peroxidase (anti-TPO) antibodies, antinuclear antibodies (ANA), antithyroglobulin (i.e., antimicrosomal) antibodies, rheumatoid factor, anti-transglutaminase IgA antibodies, and anti-parietal cell antibodies with anti-dsDNA, and anti-cardiolipin antibodies trending toward significance.
