The duration of hospitalization significantly correlated with CRP ( r = 0.15, p < 0.05) and neutrophil counts ( r = 0.16, p < 0.05), whereas a borderline significance was seen for the correlation between HDL-C levels and length of hospitalization ( r = 0.12, p = 0.06).
The here presented low LDL-C levels are probably the result of a high inflammatory state, which is also supported by the highly significant correlation between LDL-C levels and the magnitude of inflammation represented by CRP, PCT, and WBC.
