Firstly considering all interventions compared to control, there was a standardized mean effect of 0.51, however this just failed to reach significance (95% CI -0.06, 1.09; p = 0.08) (see forest plot in Additional file 3 ).

The sentences
While single focus interventions did not show a significant effect in reducing residential aged care admission, many of them showed a trend towards reducing admission and could be considered as elements within a multifactorial intervention project in future research.
