85 86 However, one meta-analysis showed a trend for increased risk of gastric adenocarcinoma development only in current smokers, which did not meet statistical significance (OR=1.49; 95% CI 0.99 to 2.225). 87 Other risk factors that have been studied and were assessed by the working group include alcohol consumption, diabetes, obesity and use of protein pump inhibitors. 88–90 For these factors the available evidence is conflicting or does not show a clear relation to the risk of gastric adenocarcinoma development.
