Patients with a perioperative loss of vitamin C ≥ 50% compared to patients with perioperative loss < 50% did not show a difference with respect to the postoperative inflammatory response as assessed by mean postoperative WBC ( p = 0.6625), CRP ( p = 0.1318) and PCT levels ( p = 0.5804), and SOFA Score ( p = 0.1699), whereas the latter showed higher mean values of SOFA Score in patients with significant intraoperative vitamin C loss during the postoperative course, which however did not reach statistical significance ( Figure 4 A,B).
